Strategically located to connect the two major pedestrian arteries in the heart of the Austin campus, the Student Activity Center is the vibrant crossroads of campus life. For years, students wanted a hub for social and extracurricular activity, so much so that they funded this endeavor themselves through student fees. The process to program and design this facility included many visioning sessions with students, allowing them to help influence the design and elements of their new campus living room.

Employing traditional campus materials and forms, this thoroughly contemporary center sits comfortably among its historic neighbors while providing inviting dynamic spaces to support student life. The facility includes a marketplace/dining cafe, a late-night coffeehouse, two theaters, multiple meeting spaces including a 150-seat tiered assembly room, and various student leadership offices.

This project was designed in collaboration with Overland Partners.
