Client: Albright College
Location: Reading, PA
Type: Fast-tracked Renovation
Project Size: 16,000 SF
Over the summer months, Albright College underwent a complex renovation of its dining facility, Jake’s Place. With a short construction time-frame, the project was executed with efficiency and precision, minimizing the impact on food service operations and student programs. The renovation transformed the previously inaccessible, below-grade facility into a bright, open plan, and adaptable mixed-use facility. Each primary function and accessory use, including food service, mail, recreation, restrooms, academic, and offices, was carefully redesigned to become a welcoming and fully accessible destination.

The design creatively applied dynamic spatial components such as glazed overhead doors, operable walls, and demountable platforms to maximize adaptability and accommodation of mixed uses and numerous student groups within the space. With these features, the space can easily be transformed to accommodate various events and activities, making it a versatile hub for the campus community.

The transformed space is now a hub for student life, promoting inclusivity and adaptability.
